Good morning students, parents, guardians, and members of the Otonabee Valley school community,

My name is Matt Gennings and I will be the acting principal for the 2020-2021 school year at Otonabee Valley Public School. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your families and working together to make this a safe and successful school year.

Mr. Whitney has accepted the role of principal for the KPR Virtual Learning School for the upcoming school year. We would like to thank him for all he’s done for the school and community over the past few years and wish him well in his new role.

As we approach the start of the new school year, you will be receiving important updates and information regarding school start-up through our school website, social media channels, and via school messenger. Dear Parents/Guardians:

We hope that you and your families have had a good summer. We're excited to have your child/children returning to school. The purpose of this letter is to give you some general information and an update about the re-entry to Otonabee Valley Public School.

Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB) is working closely with the Ministry of Education and local health officials to determine the safest way for school to begin this year. As previously announced, students may attend school either in person or virtually. KPR students will be grouped in cohorts and will have a staggered start to school this year, starting on September 14, 2020. We are currently in the process of determining how, and when, students will begin. You will receive further information with specifics about your child/children in the near future. 

We have had changes in enrollment as a result of the new Virtual Elementary School, Safety Protocols and new registrations. These changes will require some students to be placed in another classroom with a different teacher. 

Staffing

• Staffing has been adjusted to support in-person and virtual learning, so some teachers are now teaching virtually and not at their originally assigned classroom or school
• Otonabee Valley will now have 8 homeroom classes which has resulted in some movement of both staff and students

Access to your child/children’s class placement can be found after 4 PM on September 4th at the following link: http://classlookup.kprdsb.ca/. You will need to enter your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN), which can be found on the top of their report card, and your child’s birthdate to access the portal. Dear Otonabee Valley Parents and Guardians,

Next week, we will begin our staggered start to the school year. Students from Grade 1 to 6 will attend school next week in alphabetical groups by last name. The school day hours are from 9:10 to 3:30.

Students with last names beginning with the letter A through J will attend school on Monday, September 14^th and Wednesday, September 16^th.

Students with last names beginning with the letter K through Z will attend school on Tuesday, September 15^th and Thursday, September 17^th.

All Otonabee Valley students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will attend school on Friday, September 18^th.

For families with children in Year One or Year Two of Kindergarten, further information regarding the staggered start will be sent home tomorrow.

Good afternoon Parents and Guardians of Kindergarten students,

You have been sent an email on Thursday that contains information about the dates and times that your child(ren) will be in school for our staggered start. 

Our Year One/SK students will be attending in groups on Tuesday, September 15th and Thursday, September 17th.

Our Year Two/JK students will be attending in groups on Wednesday, September 16th and Thursday, September 17th.

All Kindergarten students will attend for the full day on Friday, September 18th.
